Everyone knows what to expect from a Photographer on their wedding day. The Photographer arrives, dresses nice, organizes people into photo groups, puts people in nice poses, and takes lots of pictures.
…but what does the Videographer do?
Here are a few things to expect from your Videographer on your wedding day:
Many Cameras
Don’t be alarmed if you see a lot of cameras popping up on tripods around the room, these are a good thing – the more cameras, the merrier! Each camera will capture the events taking place from a different angle. Therefore, it will see different faces, reactions, movements, etc. One camera may be watching the person giving the toast, while another watches the audience for reactions. After filming, all of these different cameras are blended together into one video, just like a TV show.
“Photo-Looking” Cameras
“Is that a Photographer or a Videographer?”
This question comes up often. Many Videographers are using digital SLR cameras to film video these days, which look similar (if not identical) to the cameras your Photographer may be using. How can you tell the difference? The Videographer will most likely have a microphone on top of his/her camera, while the Photographer will have a flash.
They’re Watching Me…
Everyone is prepared for what happens when a camera is pointed at them. You smile, the flash goes off, and then you are done. The Photographer moves on, and you go back to talking with friends and family. However, Videographers are a bit different. Since they are capturing footage, 1 or 2 seconds doesn’t make for an interesting, or even a watchable video segment. They are going to film each person a little bit longer – don’t be afraid if you see them filming you for 20 – 30 seconds, or even longer if you are discussing something.
“Did I Just Say Something Bad?”
No problem. Your Videographer will edit out anything bad from your final video.
