Looking for ways to show your love and personalize your wedding day? Here are five awesome ceremony rituals that will add a little flair to the proceedings!
Tying the Knot – Literally. You and your spouse can literally tie the knot! Take a piece of rope and do a simple fisherman’s knot together, to symbolize your bond, and how it will never break.
Sand Ceremony – In the sand ceremony, the couple pours two small containers of colored sand into a larger container. The colors mingle in gorgeous and interesting ways, and it represents two families and two lives coming together. Then, you can keep the sand forever, as a memento from your wedding day and to remember the promise you’ve made to each other! We have even seen some couples melt it into a wicked awesome glass statue – how cool is that!
Potting a Plant Together – This is especially favored by outdoorsy couples! Find a plant you both like, maybe a shrub or a bonsai tree, and plant it together during the ceremony. The plant represents the beginning of your married life. The idea is you keep the plant, nurture it, and keep it healthy, as you would your relationship.
Wine Bottle in a Box – Our personal fav! 😉 Similar to saving part of the wedding cake in the freezer, the wine bottle in a box is kind of a time capsule. The couple takes a bottle of wine (or whiskey, or anything else), puts it in a custom wooden box, and then they nail it shut together. Then, on their first anniversary, they open the box and drink the wine to celebrate! An added idea is to include letters to each other in the box – then, on your first anniversary, you read the letters to each other while drinking the wine! We love this!
Release Doves! – We’ve saved the most spectacular for last. If you’re thinking, “How am I going to get a bunch of doves?”, no worries. There are services that actually specialize in this kind of thing! At the end of the ceremony, the dove trainer releases a pair (or more!) of beautiful white birds. Their flight symbolizes the journey you two are starting as a married couple. And, interesting fun fact: the doves are trained homing pigeons that, once released, fly back to the facility they came from. So in a way, they also symbolize always being able to find your way back home!
These are just a few cool ways to metaphorically represent your unity! There’s plenty of room for changing them up and personalizing them. (For example, instead of sand, some couples mix drinks or marbles or spices!) Whatever you choose, we’re sure it will make for a personal and meaningful ceremony!
