Being a guest at a wedding reception is a ton of fun! There’s music, dancing, food, alcohol, chatting, reuniting with old friends, and making new ones. But what if some of your guests are under the age of 13? Here are some ideas to make sure your younger celebrants have a great time!
Lawn Games – If there is a safe outdoor area at the reception venue, get some lawn games! Ringtoss, beanbag toss, plastic bowling pins, or maybe even horseshoes for older kids. Anything relatively safe that won’t break anything or make a mess. (This is also fun for adults! Facing off against a toddler in beanbag toss is an entertaining and adorable time for all.)
Goody Bags – Put together some cool goody bags for the kids to play with/take home! Fill them with bubbles, crayons, candy, little plastic toys. You can customize things depending on the child’s personality and interests. Maybe pass out full coloring books. Some people have even had coloring pages made out of pictures of the bride and groom!
Tiny Table and Chairs – If there are enough children present, you can set up a special kids’ table. You can usually acquire child-sized tables and chairs through most party rental services. These tables can be filled with puzzles, coloring books, and other activities.
Play Room – Similarly, if the venue is equipped, you could set aside a designated play room. If your reception is in a church, most churches already have nursery rooms full of toys and books, or even a TV. Depending on the ages of the children, you might want to have an older kid or teenager in there to supervise.
Photo Booth – There are many reasons to rent a photo booth for your reception, but one is that kids absolutely love them! Photo booths come with boxes of props/costumes, so the kids can entertain themselves for hours by playing dress up and taking pictures. (This often results in adorable and funny photos!) P.S. Bouncy House – If you know there will be a particularly large amount of children present, go all out. Rent a bouncy house! (Provided there is room on the venue grounds and everyone involved has given it the OK.) A bouncy house provides hours of fun, it will be a nice surprise for the kids, and, weight limits permitting, some adults might even want to join! (And, as always, make sure everyone is appropriately supervised – including any beer laden adults…)
These are just a few of the ways to make sure your young guests have a great, safe time at your wedding reception!
