Your grandparents are special people in your life and you want them to be apart of your big day. But how, exactly? The positions of best man, maid of honor, and other bridesmaids and groomsmen are usually reserved for close friends or siblings or even cousins. Where would the grandparents fit into a special role? Here are five suggestions!
Formal Dances – Many people already do the formal dances where the groom dances with the mother and the bride with her father (or some other combination.) So you could have the groom dance with his grandmother(s), or the bride with her grandfather(s), or whatever arrangement you’d like.
Anniversary Dance – You could also have the reception DJ introduce an anniversary dance. This is where all the couples slow dance and are eliminated from the dance floor as the DJ calls out. “Who’s been together for 5 years? 10? 15?” etc. The couple who has been together the longest (most likely one of your sets of grandparents) usually get a bouquet of flowers and a moment with the mic to give the newlyweds some advice.
Old Wedding Photos – One cool way to decorate the guest book table is with framed pictures of your grandparents’ and parents’ weddings. Your guests will get a kick out of seeing family resemblances and changing styles. And your family will be able to reflect on cherished memories!
First Look – A “first look” – when the bride reveals herself in her wedding dress before the ceremony – is traditionally done with the groom, or the bride’s father, or sometimes the bridesmaids. But it could easily be done with the bride’s grandparents. (Many people do multiple first looks, so you have lots of options.)
These are just some cool ways to make new precious memories with some of your favorite people!
