We’ve been making an effort to beef up our Blog this year, and after several months (almost the entire year), I figured it was time to share our story.
We are high school sweethearts. 🙂
Jeanette and I met during our Junior year of high school in Drama – it so happened that we both were in the same play during a “Night of One Acts”. Well, they were supposed to be “short scenes”, but somehow ours was 50 minutes? Not sure what was up with that. And ours was “No Exit” – a strange existential play about being trapped in Hell. Ok – it was weird, but I digress.
We started dating in high school – Junior Prom, Senior Prom… and then it was time for college. We decided that we wanted to go to separate schools, and try and make the long distance relationship work. And we did! There were many hours spent talking on the phone, and lots of driving back and forth between Rolla and Springfield – I’ll let you guess who went where 😉 – but we made it work and had a great time.
We graduated college right in the middle of the 2008 Recession. Ouch. To say is was difficult to find a job is an understatement. Desperate for anything, we both managed to get on at a car dealership – Jeanette as the Receptionist and me as the A/P Clerk.
During our time at the dealership, we went back to school (more school!). Jeanette has always loved theater, and took classes at Lindenwood for Stage Management. I took a few classes in Webster’s MBA program, before realizing it wasn’t for me, and moved to Lindenwood’s Video Department.
On June 12, 2010, we were married. Aww.
There is a lot of hype about your wedding day being “the best day of your life”, but I would have to say, it’s true – our wedding day is definitely one of the best days of my life.
Our Ceremony was at the Piper Palm house in Tower Grove Park, with the Reception at Orlando’s off of Watson. It’s interesting, looking back now and trying to describe it, nothing about it seems special when I put it into words: we had a morning wedding, an early afternoon reception, a DJ, drinking, dancing, etc. But it was ours, and it was amazing, and every moment of it was perfect.
Yes, I was one of those guys that started tearing up when I saw her walk down the aisle. Yes, I asked my Best Man to whisper inappropriate jokes in my ear so I wouldn’t totally lose it. And yes, Jeanette wasn’t super happy to find out my Best Man was whispering “ballsack” in my ear while she was walking down the aisle.
Somewhere during all of this, we started Tower Studios.
Ok, well, really I started Tower Business Solutions first – I loved video, but I wasn’t sure I could actually make any money doing it. So, I chickened out, and started a company offering bookkeeping services.
Yeah – hated that. It wasn’t long before I went with what I loved, video. 🙂
Jeanette, being the awesome photographer that she is, quickly jumped on board and we have been running Tower Studios ever since.
Just when things were going pretty groovy, these two cool guys entered our lives.
I’ve been lucky enough to have the most amazing support system. I was raised by an amazing mom, and an awesomely supportive bonus mom. 🙂
In addition, between my Dad and my Grandpa, I had two awesome Dad role models growing up. I’m excited to be a father, and I hope I can be half as awesome a dad to Christopher and Leo as those guys were to me.
And here we are!
We’re just starting out on this part of our journey, so please feel free to follow along! There is so much to learn – I’m sure you’ll see us stumble through the rough spots, and I hope you’ll celebrate with us in the good times!
See you soon!
