Everyone loves saving money! You want to have a perfect wedding, but you don’t want to go bankrupt putting it together. Then you’d have no money to get your spouse anything for their birthday, and then you’re in big trouble. To save you from this, here are seven ways to save money on your wedding!
Book on a Friday or Sunday – The most popular day for weddings is Saturday. Friday and Sunday are less popular but still give you the advantage of doing it on a weekend. Due to less demand, oftentimes, vendors will run discounts for their services. Even some venues! We suppose you could also book your wedding at 7am on a Tuesday for extreme savings, but we can’t guarantee any of your guests will show up.
Consider a Winter Wedding – December, January, February, and March are typically slower months for the wedding business. (Turns out dead leaves, frost, and only two hours of sunlight a day aren’t considered romantic by most people!) Unless you’re super invested in having an outdoor wedding, try booking in the slow season. (Although winter outdoor ceremonies are doable.) Vendors are usually running some kind of discount in these months, so keep your eyes peeled for those. And, since wedding industry professionals will be less busy, you have a better chance of being able to hire the exact vendor you want.
Holiday Sales – If you do a winter wedding, keep your eyes peeled for special holiday sales, discounts, or coupons. This is especially true of more service-based vendors, such as videographers, photographers, and DJs. (Imagine a Black Friday stampede, but with wedding DJs. Everyone trying to pull the best DJs off the shelf at once. Turntables flying. Chaos!)
Newsletters – Newsletters are your friend. We know, we know, you don’t like cluttering up your email inbox. But this will help you save money, so it’s worth it! Subscribe to the newsletters of vendors you’re considering, waaaay before you intend to book. Then you can keep an eye out for whenever sales pop up. It’s called strategy! You’re a general, leading the army of your wedding. You’re a tiger, ready to pounce on the antelope called A Pretty Good Deal. You got this.
Referral Discounts – Some vendors will give you a small discount on a package if you let them know someone referred you. So if that’s the case with any of the businesses you contact, be sure to let them know. (Note: do not fake this. If you tell them your cousin Blervin or your buddy Kremdel recommended their service to you, they’ll probably be able to tell that you’re fibbing. Better safe than sorry.)
Early Afternoon Reception – Some venues will give you a discount if you’re willing to have your reception earlier in the afternoon. Usually it depends on if there’s enough time for them to book another wedding after yours as well. This can be a HUGE savings for you. What’s great about an early afternoon reception? More time in the day for other activities! You can have fun things planned elsewhere after the party, like a ballgame or a movie theater trip. Or you can go home and spend a quiet evening with your spouse. Just the two of you, holding hands, watching your favorite shows, such as Sanford and Son or Walker, Texas Ranger. That Chuck Norris sure is talented!
Non-Dinner Reception – If you decide to have your reception between the hours of lunch and dinner, you don’t have to go all out and pay for full meals. You can just serve hors d’oeuvres or other light snacks. Or if you want to keep things really casual, perhaps a bowl of loose Oreos, accompanied with red Solo cups of delicious, refreshing blue Gatorade. Okay, maybe not that casual. But still, you don’t have to have a nine course seafood dinner to make your reception great!
We hope you can use these tips to maximize your savings! You’re gonna need every extra penny if you want to get your spouse that mountain bike they’ve been wanting. Follow these guidelines and you can have an awesome wedding without breaking the bank!
